Are We Moving Fast or Cutting Conversations Short?

Short meetings, quick cycles, streamlined rituals — on paper it looks efficient. The quality of outcomes tells a different story.
Modern teams pride themselves on speed. Short meetings, quick cycles, streamlined rituals — all designed to keep momentum high. On paper it looks efficient. But watch closely and you'll often see something else: alignment debt accumulating in the gaps where conversations used to be.
Speed is resolution times direction
The expensive conversations are the ones about trade-offs: what we're not doing, what 'done' honestly means, who decides when we disagree. Cut those short and the disagreement doesn't vanish — it re-emerges as rework, polite sabotage, and the meeting after the meeting.
- Shorten status, lengthen decisions — not the reverse.
- End debates with a named decider and a written 'why'.
- Treat recurring confusion as a skipped conversation, not a people problem.
